The former Arsenal forward netted a memorable strike against Newcastle in 2002, and Liverpool’s star forward has endeavoured to mirror that effort
On 2nd March 2002, Dennis Bergkamp scored one of the greatest goals in Premier League history.
The Dutch maestro netted plenty of fabulous efforts during his time in England with Arsenal, but his sublime finish against Newcastle stands out as being one of the very best.
Spatial awareness, touch, strength and composure, this strike had it all.
‘Coutinho feels really good at Anfield’
There are not too many players in the modern game that you could imagine pulling off a similar feat, but Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho certainly possesses the required skill set.
The Brazil international has been in sparkling form this season and, with his confidence soaring, the Reds forward has endeavoured to replicate Bergkamp’s flick and spin from 14 years ago.
Admittedly, Coutinho requires four attempts to get things right and he is not in the heat of competitive action, but his effort must be considered a decent mirror image of Bergkamp’s.
Having fine-tuned his finishing on the training ground, the Samba star will now be hoping to be among the goals again over the weekend as table-topping Liverpool return to Premier League action at Southampton.
