?The final round of Champions League group stages fixtures have taken place, with the 16 sides making it to the knockout rounds confirmed following Wednesday night’s results.
Another dramatic round of action from last night’s results produced some landmark moments for some of the sides involved, while other clubs were confined to relegation to the Europa League, with some out of European competition entirely.
Holders Liverpool made it through to the knockout stages as winners of Group E following their 2-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg, as SSC Napoli finished in second spot after comfortably seeing off Genk in their final group match.
Fellow Premier League side Chelsea also made sure of their place in the knockout stages after a narrow 2-1 success over Lille. However, they finished second in Group H due to their head-to-head record with Valencia, who knocked out last season’s semi-finalists Ajax after their 1-0 win in Amsterdam.
Group G saw Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig finished above Lyon, as Benfica and Zenit narrowly missed out on the round of 16, both clubs ending the group stage one point behind the French side.

Barcelona held onto top spot in Group F, in turn consigning Inter to the Europa League after their 2-1 win, coupled with Borussia Dortmund‘s victory over Slavia Prague, ensured they finished above the German side.
Group A was already wrapped up ahead of the final set of fixtures, with Paris Saint-Germain‘s thumping win Galatasaray only adding gloss to an already stellar group stage, with Real Madrid finishing as runners up ahead of Club Brugge.
It was a similar scenario in Group B, where already confirmed Bayern Munich hosted Tottenham at the Allianz Arena. Red Star Belgrade and Olympiacos were unable to reach the latter stages, with Die Roten’s dominance in the ?Champions League meant they ended the group top of the pile.
Manchester City drew two of their group stage matches, but still were assured of top spot in Group C ahead of their 4-1 success over Dinamo Zagreb. Second place was still up for grabs, however, with Atalanta reaching the last 16 in their maiden Champions League bow with victory over Shakhtar Donetsk.
The final group consisting of Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Lokomotiv Moscow didn’t throw up any surprises, though. Juventus were already confirmed to top the group ahead of their clash with the German side, while Atletico made sure of second place after seeing off the Russian side.
The draw will take place in Nyon, Switzerland on Monday 16 December. It is scheduled to start at 11am GMT.
