Inter CEO Hints Arturo Vidal Transfer Hinges on Whether Ernesto Valverde is Sacked By Barcelona

?Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed that the club are still in talks to bring Arturo Vidal to the club, with the deal possibly hinging on whether Ernesto Valverde remains Barcelona manager.

The Chilean has long been linked with a move away from Camp Nou, despite the fact that he has made a solid contribution to his side this season. Vidal has racked up 15 La Liga appearances and scored six goals, including a vital last gasp winner against Leganés in November.

?Manchester United are understood to be ?tracking the 32-year-old but Inter are in prime position to secure his signature, with Marotta claiming that the transfer may depend on whether Valverde is sacked by Barça, as the Spaniard’s position is currently under review.

“[Vidal would] be an important player for us. We’re in talks with Barcelona but it’ll depend by many factors,” the Inter CEO is reported to have told ?Fabrizio Romano

“I’m told Barça manager Valverde’s position is under discussion at the club so we’ll see what will happen.”

Barcelona slumped to a very disappointing 3-2 defeat to Atlético Madrid in the Supercopa de España semi-final on Thursday, increasing the pressure on the club’s manager. Barça officials are understood to have ?flown to Qatar for talks with club legend Xavi about replacing the 55-year-old, although Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez have ?backed their boss to turn things around.

?Gianluca di Marzio are reporting that if Valverde does lose his job, Vidal will likely remain at the club though he is likely to depart if the former Athletic Bilbao head coach stays in his post.

If the midfielder does seal a return to Serie A, he is likely to be joined at the San Siro by Olivier Giroud. The ?Chelsea outcast has long been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge and the Frenchman is understood to be ‘?close’ to sealing a switch to Inter, having already agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri.
