Real Sociedad Deliver Strong Riposte to Barcelona Penalty Frustrations in 2-2 Draw

?Real Sociedad have taken to Twitter to respond to Barcelona’s penalty appeals during the two sides’ 2-2 draw on Saturday, after which the Catalan side launched an official complaint with Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

Barça were unhappy after seeing a penalty appeal from Gerard Piqué waved away – after a similar penalty had been awarded to Sociedad in the first half.

Goals from Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez couldn’t secure the three points for the visiting side, who were utterly outraged by the lack of VAR involvement during the game.

?La Blaugrana have since filed a complaint with the RFEF, something which the Erreala took offence to on social media.

??The tweet showed a number of images in which ?Piqué appears to be holding the shirt of his opponent, rather than it being the other way round, as ?Barcelona suggested.

The post reads: “If others prefer to keep other images, we help them select the ones that most clearly show reality.”

Alexander Isak’s 62nd minute equaliser saw Barca drop more points in the title race, meaning they could fall behind bitter rivals ?Real Madrid – if Los Blancos beat Valencia on Sunday evening – ahead of a gargantuan El Clasico clash in midweek.

The result has left Ernesto Valverde under scrutiny once again, as his side struggled against an in-form Real Sociedad, but the manager refused to criticise the performance of referee Gil Manzano.

The draw brought a six-game winning run to an end, and has put even greater importance on the upcoming match against Real Madrid – a must-win match for both sides.
