Alisson Headlines Yachine Trophy Shortlist With Four Premier League Goalkeepers Nominated

?The Premier League dominates the inaugural Yachine Trophy shortlist, with four goalkeepers based in England’s top flight among the ten nominees for the award from France Football.

Liverpool Alisson Becker is joined by Manchester City’s Ederson, Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Loris and Chelsea’s Europa League winner Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer, Ajax’s Andre Onana, Juventus’ Wojciech Szczesny, Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, Inter’s Samir Handanovic and Barcelona’s Marc-Andre yer Stegen complete the shortlist.

Alisson is perhaps the favourite to win the award after a stellar 2019 which saw him lift the Champions League and Copa America. In addition, the 27-year-old Brazilian earned a hat-trick of Golden Gloves in the Premier League, Champions League and Copa America.

Perhaps most likely to challenge Alisson – who also won UEFA’s Goalkeeper of the Year award – are ter Stegen, who lifted La Liga with Barcelona and Ederson, who has become a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s wonderful Manchester City side.

Notable by their absence are Manchester United’s David de Gea and Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois, who have endured difficult seasons.

Eusebio,Lev Yashin

Named after former the legendary Soviet Union star Lev Yashin – the only goalkeeper ever to have won the Ballon d’Or back in 1963 – the new trophy from France Football gives recognition to the year’s best stopper.

In addition to the Yachine Trophy, France Football also released the shortlist’s for their men and women’s Ballon d’Or awards and Kopa Trophy, for best player under the age of 21

The awards are among the most coveted in football and stand alongside FIFA’s own The Best as the most prestigious of individual honours in the sport.

All of France Football’s awards will be given out in a ceremony in Paris on 2 December.

90min’s Definitive European Player Power Rankings: Week 10

Week 10. Blimey. This is, as they say, the thick of it. The thick of the season. Stuff is happening, all the time, across Europe, and when it’s not, it’s either Thursday (who cares about the Europa League) or a particularly pesky VAR interruption.

In any case, this has also coincided with what I would call a sort of pivotal moment in politics. That’s right, we’re getting political here at EPPR. But not in that way. Nah, we’ve just teamed up with Armando Iannucci and Jesse Armstrong’s sweary tour de force, ‘The Thick of It’.

F*ckity Enjoy!

15. Radja Nainggolan (New Entry)

Radja Nainggolan

“Yeah, yeah. Andy Murray, Andy Pandy, f*cking Ghandi have a hand-shandy, whatever, just f*ck off out of my life.”

That is essentially what Inter said to Radja Nainggolan this summer. This Saturday’s thundertw*t of a goal was his response. If you haven’t seen it yet, your existence is pitiful and without meaning and I don’t want to know you. So, you know, watch it.

14. Jorginho (New Entry)

Jorginho

“I’d like to nail him to a tree through the head and watch lice slowly crawl over his body, eating off the flesh in a slow and painful death. But that rather bitter anomaly aside, most of the responses to the Warwick report press cuttings were pretty positive.”

And so went Jorginho’s first season in England. People weren’t happy. But the Italian is quietly reversing public opinion while exuding a greater and greater influence at Stamford Bridge.

He’s certainly not an archetypal Chelsea midfielder, but with more puppeteering performances like the one against Newcastle and he might just be for the years to come.

13. Jack Grealish (Re-Entry)

Jack Grealish

“I’ve got a to-do list here that’s longer than a f*cking Leonard Cohen song.”

Yes, Jack Grealish has a lot of responsibilities at Aston Villa, but boy does he realish it (lol). Against Brighton, he was everywhere and everything.

Indeed, if we’re talking most impactful players for their clubs in the Premier League, he can’t be far off the Virgil van Dijk vortex of worship.

12. Luis Muriel (Re-Entry)

Luis Muriel

“All events are regional. Everything that happens in the world has to happen somewhere. Do you see? Even JFK’s assassination was a regional event. But it was also very important. Like this factory visit.”

Oh, you think this is about Luis Muriel going to Atalanta? No, no, this is about Atalanta visiting Lazio, because Atalanta are now definitively a bigger club than Lazio. Trust me. They’re the regional folk, while Muriel and co are traversing Europe, going global.

Anyway, the Colombian got another two goals in a cracking game and the Bergamo outfit are still sat in third place. Nice stuff, Luis.

11. Arkadiusz Milik (New Entry)

Arkadiusz Milik

“Well it was a bit of a shock for us. In a good way. Like twins or a tax rebate.”

Having not scored since April and started the season with a groin injury that seemed to be still affecting him, Arkadiusz Milik surprised some Napoli fans with a return to scoring ways against Hellas Verona. Twin-scoring ways, to be precise.

That 2-0 defeat kept Napoli in fourth place, and left their visitors straggling a point behind AC Milan. AC Milan!!! Hellis Verona, more like.

10. Raheem Sterling (Re-Entry)

Raheem Sterling

“Tomorrow, from broadsheets to wank rags, I want pages one, two and three to be a profile of Tom looking like a f*cking political colossus. Y’know: Tom meeting the Pope, Tom in an NHS hospital chatting to little, baldie kiddies. I want pages four and five to be a timeline of British politics with me at the centre looking f*cking indispensable and f*cking benign.”

After some bad press following the Wolves defeat and the, err, Bernardo Silva fiasco, Pep Guardiola wanted a no-nonsense three points against Crystal Palace. And he got it, nonsense and all.

One of the better parts of this arty nonsense came from Raheem Sterling, with an assist for the ages. Luckily, a certain David Silva was on hand to salvage it with a no-nonsense wallop of a finish.

9. Marcus Rashford (Up 5)

Marcus Rashford,Virgil Van Dijk

“I’m sensing a change in management styles. From touchy-feely to smashy-testes.”

No player represented Manchester United’s step up in performance against Liverpool like Marcus Rashford. The recently much-maligned marksman was at his effervescent best, besting Virgil van Dijk on more than one occasion, and providing United with the goal no one thought they could muster.

And yet, even though the above quote might apply to the Red Devils, it remains the case that the below one could resurface at any time:

“Sacked after twelve months, looks like you’ve f*cked up. Sacked after a week, looks like he’s f*cked up.”

8. Lionel Messi (Re-Entry)

Lionel Messi

“Do you know 90% of household dust is made of dead human skin? That’s what you are to me.”

Yes, after a period of rest and recuperation, Lionel Messi is back. And he’s back on his mere mortal-humiliating bullsh*t. Now, the Argentine’s performance against Eibar was not a vintage one, but it still showed his complete and utter disdain for all those in his way.

They’re just dust. Dead human skin. And he’s the hoover.

7. Marco Reus (Re-Entry)

Marco Reus

“I think we should use the ‘carrot and stick’ approach. You take a carrot, stick it up his f*ckin arse, followed by the stick, followed by an even bigger, rougher carrot.”

Look, after three successive draws, Borussia Dortmund had to change their approach. Especially for a game as big as the one against league leaders Borussia Monchengladbach.

And so they did, to great effect. They used Gladbach as the carrot and told Marco Reus to eat it. And he did.

Oh, and the carrot from the quote is a different carrot. Just to be clear.

6. Tomas Koubek (New Entry)

Tomas Koubek

“From now on, it’s a proper fight. It’s a pub fight, Motherwell rules. And Tom is gonna get a pint glass in his f*ckin’ eye, and a pool cue up his arse, and another pool cue in his other f*ckin’ eye!”

Yeah, hardman Tomas Koubek brought the fight to Bayern Munich alright, stopping the Bavarians from getting a much-needed victory with a series of staggering saves.

5. David Silva (New Entry)

David Silva

“Look, people really like it when you go just a bit early! You know; steely jawed, faraway look in your eyes! Before you get to the point when they’re sitting round in the pub saying ‘Oh, that f*cker’s got to go!’ you surprise them! ‘Blimey, he’s gone! I didn’t expect that! Resigned? You don’t see that much anymore! Old school! Respect! I rather liked the guy! He was hounded out by the f*cking press!’ How about that, eh? What a way to go!”

Certain people have been questioning David Silva’s presence at Manchester City this season. Certain people were very, very wrong.

4. Romelu Lukaku (Up 3)

FBL-ITA-SERIEA-SASSUOLO-INTER

“Don’t you ever, EVER call me a bully…. I’m so much worse than that.”

Don’t you ever, EVER call Romelu Lukaku a flat-track bully. He’s so much more than that. And he’s proving that with each passing game under Antonio Conte at Inter.

Big Rom is on a Big Mission.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo (-)

Cristiano Ronaldo

“This is a f*cking joke. Chancellor? He goes into debt every time he passes a sweet shop!”

Despite scoring his 701st career goal (like a kid in a sweet shop), Cristiano Ronaldo stays third. Again, he wasn’t happy.

2. Robert Lewandowski (Down 1)

FBL-GER-BUNDESLIGA-AUGSBURG-BAYERN MUNICH

“F*ckity bye!”

Another week, another goal, NOT ANOTHER TOP SPOT FOR ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI.

I hope our relationship can stay strong through this testing time, Your Royal Highness the Best Goalscorer in Europe.

1. Antoine Griezmann (Re-Entry)

Antoine Griezmann,Arthur,Frenkie De Jong,Luis Suarez

“I’m cooking now! I’m f*cking Delia Smith! I’m cracking eggs! I’m pouring in baking powder! I’m using f*cking vanilla extract! It’s fantastic!”

In what could be described as a Norwich yellow, Antoine Griezmann channelled his inner Delia Smith to cook up a stormer at Eibar.

Having heard the disparaging ‘let’s be ‘avin ya’ calls, he played some of the best fursberl of his life, performing a vital role in all three goals, and showing his critics – a certain Leo Messi among them – that he can play the Barça way, that he can be a useful muse to both Messi and Suarez, whilst maintaining a certain goalscoring standard himself.

Good on ya, Grizi.

Barcelona Make Lautaro Martinez Top Transfer Target But Inter Eye Contract Extension

?Barcelona have reportedly decided to make Inter striker Lautaro Martinez their number one target to replace Luis Suarez at the Camp Nou.

While Barca don’t want to sell Suarez, the 32-year-old is nearing the end of his career with the Catalan side seeking an adequate replacement.

Luis Suarez

Martinez has been in fine form for both Inter and Argentina lately with the 22-year-old attacker having provided five goals and an assist so far this campaign, most recently scoring twice in a 4-3 victory over Sassuolo.

The Argentine also impressed at Copa America, helping ?Argentina to the semi-finals with two goals. He also scored a hat-trick against Mexico in an international friendly in September, and ?Calciomercato report that he is very much on ?Barcelona’s radar.

However, ?Inter have no plans to sell. Aware of his potential, the ?Serie A side are looking to offer Martinez a new deal, one which would see his current €111m release clause removed.

The Nerazzurri are challenging ??Juventus for the ?Scudetto under Antonio Conte, and will be desperate to hold on to their new talisman.

FBL-ITA-SERIEA-SASSUOLO-INTER

The Camp Nou could prove to be too tempting a proposition and is a stadium that Martinez has already scored at earlier this season in a 2-1 ?Champions League defeat to ?Barca

Any potential transfer could hinge on the form of Barcelona’s latest addition, ?Antoine Griezmann, whose early season form has been far from scintillating. If Griezmann fails to live up to expectations, and ?Suarez’s form dwindles, then Martinez will become even more desirable.

Lautaro Martinez

Barcelona will have to be patient in attempting to capture the Argentine’s signature but past evidence shows that Barcelona are willing to wait for their targets, as was seen in the signings of Griezmann and ?Philippe Coutinho.

In the meantime, Martinez will be looking to push Inter towards a first league title since 2010, as well as the possibility of a ?Champions League run.

Sadio Mane Reveals His Pick for World’s Best Player Between Lionel Messi and Virgil van Dijk

Sadio Mane has revealed his pride at receiving Lionel Messi’s vote for FIFA World Player of the Year, ahead of Monday’s Ballon d’Or shortlist announcement.

Messi and Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk are among the frontrunners to scoop the 2019 award, but who would Mane rate as the very best between the pair?

Speaking with the Sunday Times, Mane – slightly tongue-in-cheek – revealed that the Barcelona superstar would just edge his fellow Red.

Sadio Mane,Lionel Messi

Asked if he would vote for Messi, he replied: “Yes, for sure…after Virgil [Van Dijk]. No, Virgil is a great, great player but sorry Virgil, it has to be Messi before you.”

Perhaps the ?Liverpool forward is repaying the compliment after receiving Messi’s seal of approval? Either way, he’s proud of how far he’s come.

“It’s a great compliment when ?Messi votes for you. If you look at where I’ve come from, it shows I’ve come quite far. Without being for a long time at an academy, I got here. All I can say [to kids] is to keep working hard and go for your dream.

How about the supposed rift with Mohamed Salah, which came into focus as the Egyptian selfishly chose not to square the ball to Mane against Burnley?

The forward cleared that up in the same interview, revealing: “I was just frustrated because it was a pass from Mo [that should have been played] but to be honest it could happen from me [to him] sometimes. It is just part of football.”

Mohamed Salah,Sadio Mane

Mane mentioned that the heat of the title race has driven a desire to be more clinical, which sparked his frustration, but the pair remain on great terms and have put that incident firmly in the past.

He added: “He’s a really, really great person and I like him and, after, we spoke about it. He said he didn’t see me and we moved on and forgot about it.”

KNVB Director Confirms Ronald Koeman Has ‘Barcelona Release Clause’ in His Netherlands Contract

KNVB director Nico-Jan Hoogma has confirmed that ?Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has a release clause in his contract which allows him to leave for Barcelona.

The former Southampton and Everton manager has spent just over a year with the national team where he’s helped the Netherlands enjoy a renaissance of sorts, reaching the latter stages of the UEFA Nations League and within touching distance of Euro 2020.

But Koeman could leave to take charge of his former side Barcelona thanks to a clause in his contract with the Netherlands, something which KNVB director Hoogma fears could be activated next summer.

Ronald Koeman

I hope not”, Hoogma told FOX Sports (via Voetbal Primeur) about Koeman’s potential exit after Euro 2020. “I hope that we can work together for a very long time, because I think it is going very well.

“But Ronald has long indicated that he wants to be a Barcelona manager someday. Let’s see what will happen. Success with the Netherlands will certainly help him, just like everyone else helps us.

Hoogma added that he wants Koeman to stay with the national team at least until the next World Cup in 2022, but the KNVB boss admitted little can be done to stop him leaving if their ‘Barcelona clause’ is met.

Agreements have been made about that,” he added. “They have to pay for that.”

As well as spending time at Barcelona as a player earlier in his career, Koeman also worked as Louis van Gaal’s assistant in Catalonia during the late 1990s.

 - "FC Barcelona"

He went on to have managerial stints in Holland, Portugal and Spain before moving to the Premier League in 2014.

Koeman impressed at Southampton and Everton but could never do quite enough to earn a move elsewhere and his form eventually burnt out, but the 56-year-old has once again established himself as a top-class manager since joining the national team.

Frenkie de Jong Is Not Only the Heir to Barcelona’s Midfield Throne, He’s a Legend in the Making

Amidst all the rivalry and hatred within the modern footballing community, an outpouring of open respect from a fanbase towards an opposing player is a rarity – and is traditionally withheld for the truly elite footballers of this world.

Cristiano Ronaldo received such an ovation at Juventus when he scored that bicycle kick for Real Madrid in the Champions League two years ago, but you won’t find many other recent examples.

That was until Barcelona’s clash with Eibar.

That was until Frenkie de Jong’s withdrawl – when the young Dutchman was greeted by a rousing standing ovation from the home supporters, keen to acknowledge the prestigious talent and outstanding performance they were blessed enough to witness.

Frenkie De Jong,Pape Diop

The 22-year-old trotted off the field with ten minutes to play, but the damage had been well and truly done during the starlet’s devastating spell in the heart of the Barcelona midfield, as the La Liga champions cruised to a 3-0 victory over their hosts.

Sometimes a player comes along with such confidence, technical ability and an understanding of the game that he immediately draws comparisons with some of the greats who have graced our beautiful game over the years.

De Jong’s transfer to La Blaugrana and his initial performances allowed the Camp Nou faithful to dream of a new Andres Iniesta, a second-coming of Xavi, or the heir to the ageing Sergio Busquets’ throne.

Well, ?Barça have got themselves a man who can do all three roles, and each to an exceptional standard.

It’s impossible to pigeon-hole De Jong when it comes to your typical midfield roles, given his ability to adapt to any position across the middle of the park. The former Ajax man is tidy in possession, quick across the ground and has a lovely eye for a pass.

But there’s something special about Barça‘s new midfielder. De Jong is able to find time and space in every area of the pitch, and he plays the game at his own speed, which opposition and teammates alike must obey.

The youngster’s calmness on the ball is unnerving for his opponents, who are left unsure whether to allow him to wander towards his own corner flag to collect possession, or to press and watch him glide effortlessly past each tackle.

De Jong’s display against Eibar was possibly his best in a Barcelona shirt, and the true range of his talents were witnessed by the fortunate crowd in attendance. The Netherlands international dictated proceedings from start to finish, demanding the ball in every possible occasion, and releasing his teammates with intelligent one-or two-touch passes.

His speed across the pitch is also frightening, and he often wriggles free of tight marking, only to burn away from his opponent with a lightning burst of pace and kickstart another dangerous Barça attack.

The highest compliment you can pay De Jong, is that his footballing intelligence and skill allows ?Lionel Messi and ?Luis Suarez to play their natural, devastating game.

Ever since Xavi and Iniesta walked off into the sunset with their heads held high, their legacies at Camp Nou have only grown in stature, given the Catalan club’s failure to adequately replace the pair in each passing transfer window.

In the former, Los Cules had a pass-master, someone who set the tempo and picked killer passes for his grateful strikers. In the latter, Barça possessed a man who could carry the ball and slalom through any number of tackles, creating space for others and linking up perfectly with those around him.

In De Jong, Barcelona have all of those attributes rolled into one player.

It’s far too early to say whether Barcelona’s midfield prayers have been answered; you only need to look at Matthijs de Ligt’s initial struggles at ?Juventus to see that time and patience is needed when bedding in a young player into a top team.

But De Jong seems to be the real deal.

For a 22-year-old boy to be the beating heart of one of Europe’s most successful clubs in recent history, and to be winning the plaudits of pundits and supporters alike, the Camp Nou faithful may be settling down to witness the dawn of a new era.

The Kings are dead and so are their ghosts – long live the King.

Sergi Roberto Suffers First Half Knee Injury in Barcelona’s Comfortable Win at Eibar

Barcelona ?midfielder/full-back hybrid Sergi Roberto sustained a first-half knee injury and was forced to watch from the sidelines as his side overcame Basque outfit Eibar by three goals to nil on Saturday afternoon, the club confirming the injury after the match.

Goals from ?Lionel Messi, ?Luis Suárez and Antoine Griezmann, or MSG as they are occasionally called, meant that Ernesto Valverde saw his first-choice front three all net in the same game for the very first time.

However it was not smiles all round, as 27-year-old Roberto was forced off at the break after sustaining damage to his left knee, eventually being replaced by fellow right-back Nelson Semedo.

The severity of the injury is not yet known, neither is the extent of time to which Roberto will spend on the sidelines. However the former Barcelona B man will be eager to put his injury woes behind him after missing ten games in all competitions during the 2018/19 season.

The injury will no doubt cause a headache for Valverde, who already has injuries worries over key defenders such as Samuel Umtiti – who returned against Eibar – and summer signing Junior Firpo (muscle injury).

However, it is apparent that some ?Barcelona fans are not too disturbed by the news of the injury…

Whereas other fans were quick to relay news from local radio on the injury.

Valverde will be keen to get as many players back from injury as soon as possible with a busy schedule just around the corner, with as many as 13 games before the start of the New Year – possibly including a rearranged Clasico.

Barcelona travel to the Czech Republic on Wednesday to take on Slavia Prague in the Champions League at the Sinobo Stadium.

The Catalan giants then get a break before they host Real Valladolid at the Camp Nou six days later, after the Clasico against ?Real Madrid was postponed due to political unrest in Catalunya following the imprisonment of Catalan separatist leaders.

Napoli President Admits That Kalidou Koulibaly and Fabian Ruiz Will Be Sold ‘Sooner Or Later’

Napoli president Aurelio ?de Laurentiis has conceded that defender Kalidou Koulibaly and midfielder Fabian Ruiz are available, although any club wanting them must meet the club’s high valuations.

Koulibaly and Fabian are key members of a Napoli side that is mounting another push for the Serie A title, but they currently find themselves in fourth place and six points behind leaders Juventus after seven games.

kalidou koulibaly

Both have been linked with moves away in recent months, with ?Manchester United ?seeing a bid rejected for Koulibaly in the summer before they went on to sign Harry Maguire. Fabian, meanwhile, has attracted interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona after appearing to cement a midfield spot in the Spanish national team.

In regard to the centre-back, ?I Partenopei president De Laurentiis has now revealed that he has resigned himself to the fact that there may come a time when he will be forced to sell Koulibaly. Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, ?as relayed by Calciomercato, he claimed: “Last August I refused £105m [from Manchester United] and I am aware that sooner or later we will be forced to sell him.”

De Laurentiis then went on to discuss rumours regarding ?Barcelona and ?Real Madrid‘s interest in signing midfielder Fabian. He continued: “Fabian Ruiz? The player likes it, very much. On the other hand, I would not have spent €30m on an unknown boy. If they offer me €180m, then we can also discuss it.”

Fabian Ruiz

Barça have long shown an interest in the player and, although they remain keen, ?they are prioritising bringing in a striker to be a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez. The price quoted by De Laurentiis would most likely further deter the Spanish giants from making a move before they land a new forward.

The president concluded by revealing that he is an admirer of Fiorentina’s Gaetano Castrovilli and Brescia wonderkid Sandro Tonali, but claimed that he does not believe they will be having a busy January transfer window.

As far as Koulibaly and Fabian are concerned, it appears as though their price tags have been set, but it remains to be seen whether any club will be willing to meet these lofty valuations.

Eibar 0-3 Barcelona: Report, Ratings & Reaction as Front Three All Fire in Vital Away Win

?Barcelona have extended their unbeaten run to 10 games across all competitions with a 3-0 win on the road at SD Eibar on Saturday.

Antoine Griezmann scored the only goal of the first half after just 15 minutes, breaking the offside trap and capitalising on Pablo de Blasis’ slip before squeezing the ball past goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovi? via the inside of the post.

Luis Suárez found the back of the net shortly after the break but was correctly denied by the offside flag, although the Uruguayan was involved soon after as Lionel Messi doubled Barça’s lead just before the hour mark.

Luis Suarez,Lionel Messi

Suárez eventually did get his name on the scoresheet with a simple finish, but it was a goal that was once again only made possible by Griezmann – the Frenchman’s through ball split Eibar’s defence for Messi to tee up his Uruguayan teammate.

Half-chances came for both sides as the game went on but neither could add to the scoreline, with Barcelona eventually running out comfortable winners after a hard-fought opening hour in the Basque Country.

Player Ratings

Dmitrovic (8); de Blasis (5), Oliveira (7), Arbilla (6), Cote (7); Orellana (7), Diop (5), Alvarez (6), Leon (6); Enrich (7), Charles (6).

FC Barcelona

Key Talking Point

Three points are three points at the end of the day, but any assumptions that Barcelona’s trip to Eibar was a walk in the park couldn’t be further from the truth.

Antoine Griezmann

Barça spent most of their afternoon at the picturesque Municipal de Ipurua on the backfoot, with strikers Charles and Sergi Enrich ensuring that they were a handful throughout, even though very little was created by Eibar’s attacking players.

The majority of the visitors’ most impressive moments came either from counter-attacks or by exploiting Eibar’s high defensive line with long balls – something which saw Griezmann break the deadlock in the first half.

Barcelona’s quality eventually shone through as they extended their unbeaten run to 10 games, but there’s still plenty of work for Ernesto Valverde’s side to do if they want to retain their league title this season.

Player Ratings

Ter Stegen (7); Roberto (6), Umtiti (6), Lenglet (8), Alba (7); de Jong (7), Busquets (7), Arthur (6); Messi (8), Suarez (7), Griezmann (9*).

Substitutes: Semedo (7), Vidal (6), Rakitic (6).

Star Man

Eyebrows were raised when Antoine Griezmann moved to Barcelona from Atletico Madrid, but the World Cup winner once again proved why he was a fantastic investment from the Blaugrana.

Griezmann’s shown his worth thanks to his defensive contributions in recent weeks, but the 28-year-old was also involved in each of Barcelona’s three goals on Saturday – getting a goal, an assists, and providing the crucial pass for Suárez’s effort.

It wasn’t a vintage team performance from Barcelona, but Griezmann stepped up exactly when his side needed him to and showed exactly why the club’s key decision makers shelled out €120m for his signature during the summer.

Looking Ahead

Barcelona break for Champions League duty where they’ll be on the road to Sparta Praha, while next week’s El Clasico has been postponed.

SD Eibar travel to Real Valladolid on October 26.

October Clásico Between Barcelona & Real Madrid Postponed With Clubs to Decide New Date

?The first hugely anticipated Clásico of the 2019/20 season between Barcelona and Real Madrid has been postponed over fears of potential civil unrest and protests relating to the sentencing of Catalan separatist leaders on the same day could engulf the game.

It had been scheduled to take place at Camp Nou later on 26 October, but rather than switch it to Madrid’s Bernabeu, the encounter is expected to be rescheduled for December.

FC Barcelona v Inter: Group F - UEFA Champions League

RFEF has confirmed that its competition committee will allow the clubs to discuss and decide the date and time of the new fixture, but will intervene and determine it for them if no agreement has been reached by 10am (CEST) on Monday 21 October.

It had earlier been reported that there were conflicting preferences from the competition committee and La Liga over the potential new date of the game.

According to Marca, SPORT and Mundo Deportivo, La Liga proposed the new date be Saturday 7 December, with a weekend fixture rather than midweek thought to have less of an impact on the global audience for what is by far the league’s biggest draw.

That would require other fixtures that Barça and Real are due to play that weekend, against Mallorca and Espanyol respectively, to also be moved – potentially to three days earlier.

The reported alternative proposed by RFEF’s competition committee is 18 December, which falls on a Wednesday. That is not ideal for La Liga, who as already mentioned, prefer their most marketable fixture of the season to be played on a weekend date.

Real Madrid v FC Barcelona - Copa del Rey Semi Final: Second Leg

La Liga president Javier Tebas has also criticised the 18 December date as it would clash with the Copa del Rey second round fixtures that are being played that day – 16 La Liga teams will be in the competition, although Barça and Real won’t enter until a later round.

It presents the problem of El Clásico overshadowing those other games and potentially hindering the sale of television rights as interest will be diminished.
