Bayern Munich Set to Send Philippe Coutinho Back to Barcelona After Inconsistent Loan Spell

?Philippe Coutinho’s future at Bayern Munich is hanging in the balance, with the Bavarian club unwilling to pay the €120m signing clause – unless the Brazilian improves his performances.

Coutinho has been somewhat inconsistent for Der FCB this season, bagging six goals in 16 league games – although three of those came in a hat-trick against Werder Bremen.

Bayern have the option to make the playmaker’s loan deal permanent at the end of the season, but German outlet ?Bild claims that the Bundesliga champions remain unconvinced by the Brazilian thus far, and may opt against his signing.

Coutinho joined the German side from Barcelona in the summer, as the 27-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements under then-boss Ernesto Valverde. The Spaniard has since been sacked and replaced by Quique Setién, which may open the door for a possible Camp Nou return for the attacking midfielder.

The ?ex-Liverpool star has bagged seven goals and seven assists in all competitions for Bayern, but these impressive statistics can be rather misleading. Coutinho has racked up six goals and five assists against the bottom four sides in the Bundesliga, and he has failed to notch a single goal or assist against teams in the top half of the table.

The loanee’s inability to make his mark on games against the better sides will worry his possible future employers, who would have to spend big to secure his long-term services.

With Coutinho’s future in doubt at both Bayern and ?Barcelona, the Brazil international must improve his displays – particularly in the crucial matches against his rivals  – if he wants to remain in the Bundesliga beyond this season.

However, it is becoming increasingly unlikely that the German champions will take a gamble on Coutinho, and they may make a move for Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz instead.

?Bayern are occupying second spot in the league table, four points behind RB Leipzig at the midway point of the campaign.
